Home Exterior Color Schemes

“Home Exterior Trim” is not one of those words most people would associate with home remodeling projects. Most would think of trim colors as being for the interior of a home. Yet trim colors can actually have a big impact on how your home looks from the outside. In fact trim choices will be the largest contributor to your home’s curb appeal. If you are considering a home renovation, trim choice may be the single most important factor that dictates the style, size and cost of your home improvement project.

Exterior Trim Choices

How to Choose the Right Trim Color For Your Home The first question you must answer before choosing any trim color is; “Which color combinations will I choose?” Blue and white is an old classic combination especially for Americana homes and nautical-theme houses. This trim combination typically takes on a slightly lemon yellow tone for most applications. For coastal applications it can often be combined with other colors to produce a more upscale look. It freshens up the older classic look to seem more contemporary.

Trim Colors

Yellow, Beige and Red are fairly traditional color combinations used to build siding. While the shade and variations of these three basic trims are widely available, it can be difficult to find one that works for your home exterior color scheme. Most commonly these trim colors are blended together on pre-built siding kits, but when this option is not available you can try to purchase ready-made kits at your local home improvement store. When you combine beige and yellow make sure the color combinations stay consistent on the house plan. If they don’t, the color will be washed out when the final home exterior color scheme is applied.

Blue Trim Color Schemes

Blue is the perfect trim color combination if you live in an area where temperatures fluctuate and are often very hot in the summer and very cold in the winter. It has a cool feel to it so it fits well with the coastal and maritime themes associated with home exterior color schemes. While a blue home exterior trim combination may not be very attractive on its own, it easily mixes with other colors to produce interesting results. Combining it with white is an excellent choice because white has a natural tinge of blue that helps it fit in with any existing home exterior color scheme. Also, it is fairly easy to keep the blue accents subtle while still creating a stunning overall look. Blue can also be easily combined with other colors to create new and interesting effects.

Orange and lime green are both great trim colors if you like vibrant and cheery hues. These color combination’s vibrant looks go well with the beach, golf courses and other places of outdoor recreation. The orange and lime green hues are extremely popular for trim designs because they have a very sport like appearance. The best thing about these two trim colors is that they don’t have to be limited to the garage or the garden. You can incorporate orange and lime green into your general home exterior design ideas without much trouble.

Remember, you really do have a lot of different options when it comes to choosing home exterior color patterns. Just be sure to think about how the colors will work with existing home decors and other landscaping features. Once you’ve decided on the colors that you want to use for your trim design, then you can begin to put the pieces together and create the right look and feel for your home.
